Hello everyone, it’s that time of the month again. Yes, it’s subscription game reveal time! First off to bat is Microsoft and Xbox Games with Gold. I remember when Sony started doing the PlayStation Plus free game thing way back when, and it seemed quite novel. Now, it’s all about that Xbox Game Pass hype, and Games with Gold has become more of a secondary reason to be a subscriber. But hey, it’s one heck of a deal, and August’s lineup contains a couple of decent offerings for first-time players, including Yooka-Laylee and Darksiders III for Xbox One.
No offense to the latter, but I think Darksiders III is the main pull here. The long-awaited follow-up to the first and Darksiders and Darksiders II, this game stars the Horseman (or Horsewoman, in this case) of Fury, to follow War and Death respectively. The action combat mixed with Zelda-style puzzle solving has been a decent formula in the past, and Darksiders III continues that trend, with a pretty solid offering. THQ has been through a tumultuous decade, but Darksiders III is a solid bet to try out this month in Xbox Games With Gold’s August lineup.
Another Xbox Games with Gold August offering is Yooka-Laylee. From the makers of the original Banjo-Kazooie games, Yooka-Laylee was riding on a wave of nostalgia hype as soon as it was announced, and the first Kickstarter fund launched. It may not have lived up to those expectations, but it’s certainly nothing to miss out on.
Completing Xbox Games With Gold’s August lineup on Xbox 360 is Lost Planet 3, a follow-up to the cult-classic Lost Planet 1 & 2, and Garou: Mark of the Wolves, the final entry in SNK’s Fatal Fury series.
Again, Microsoft seems to make things a bit complicated to remember which games will be available when with Xbox Games With Gold. This month, Darksiders III and Lost Planet 3 will become live on August 1, but only the former will be available the whole month, with the latter stopping after August 15. The day after, both Yooka-Laylee and Garou become available, but the latter finishes on August 31, the same day as Darksiders III, while Yooka-Laylee continues until September 15.
What do you think about Xbox Games With Gold for August? Does Darksiders III or Yooka-Laylee do enough to keep you subscribed? Or is this just a moot article, since you’re already subscribed to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate for a myriad of other reasons anyway and you don’t really care about these games? To be honest, I can see that being the perspective of a few people but leave a comment anyway with your thoughts.
