With Microsoft’s approach to its Xbox division as we advance, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate might be a common gift under many a Christmas tree, which includes Xbox Live Gold, as well as both Game Pass for PC and Console (which in turn includes EA Play). A benefit of having Xbox Live Gold is the Games With Gold service, which gives you monthly games to keep* at no additional cost. Now, as many gamers will be getting new games to play over the Christmas period, Microsoft has announced what games will be available to get in January.
Dead Rising rises again (pun intended) as part of January’s Games With Gold offering, with the remastered version making up half of the two Xbox One offerings on next month’s list. One of the most iconic titles of that Xbox 360/PS3 generation, with the protagonist of Frank West one of the more memorable of his kind. It set the path for future success with the series, arguably peaking with the second game, as the zombie-killing series got progressively crazier and crazier with its signature weapon combination system, allowing you to mix different weapons to create a pitchfork and a pneumatic drill motor for example. It is available to download from January 16 to February 15.
It’s joined on Games With Gold’s January Xbox One lineup by Little Nightmares, a strange puzzle game that deals with surviving, you guessed it, nightmares. It’s a pretty surreal and unnerving experience, as you have to deal with a ton of scary scenarios that play into deep-rooted phobias and scares and require good platforming skills to come out alive. It’s not the longest game in the world, coming in at just over an hour, shrinking to under the hour mark if you know what you’re doing. It’s available for the entire month of January.
King of Fighters XIII and Breakdown complete January’s Xbox Games With Gold lineup, and the Xbox 360 titles are worth checking out in their own regard. KOF13 still holds up as a great fighting game in a long-running series, while Breakdown is an original Xbox game later ported to the Xbox 360, and is a sci-fi shooter but gives you special powers to make you feel like a badass. Breakdown and KOF13 become available on January 16, but while KOF13 is available until February 15, Breakdown finishes on January 31.
*Games remain in your account to play as long as you remain a subscriber.
