The prices for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X might’ve just leaked “thanks” to French retailer Carrefour. It seems that the Xbox and PS5 prices were displayed on the store’s preorder page that launched too early. While the page is now inaccessible and there’s no backup page to be seen, French site GamerGen and Reddit managed to grab screenshots of the next-gen console prices. According to the screenshot, Xbox Series X will be around $110 cheaper than PS5 price which was listed at the equivalent of $587.
Although to note, it’s not uncommon for online stores to put up unofficial product descriptions and price placeholders. Plus since there’s no Wayback Machine or Google Cache archives to crosscheck with, you should take this leak with a grain of salt. Considering how quickly Microsoft confirmed the Halo Infinite multiplayer leak, maybe one of them will release official statements soon.
In the now inaccessible page, the store listed PS5 price and its accessories as:
- PlayStation 5 Standard Edition: €499 (~$587.05)
- PlayStation 5 Digital Edition: €399 (~$469.40)
- PULSE 3D wireless headset: €49,90 (~$58.70)
- DualSense charging station: €49,90 (~$58.70)
- DualSense gamepad: €49,90 (~$58.70)
- HD camera: €49,90 (~$58.70)
- Multimedia remote control: €49,90 (~$58.70)
Meanwhile, the Xbox Series X preorder page did not show any pictures and only listed the console preorder price at €399 (~$469.40). For the US or North America region though, the prices would probably be rounded off to $499, $399, and $49.90.
Based on the screenshots compiled by GamerGen, Carrefour also listed the preorder end dates and product availability for both consoles are on September 13th for Xbox Series X and October 3rd for PS5. This would be an extremely unusual move, to not launch new consoles in Winter since that’s when people are buying toys and gifts for Christmas presents. Thus, again, this might be another indicator to not put your trust too much into the leak and just see them as placeholders for the store.
What do you think about this? Is it realistic for Microsoft to try and beat Sony with a lower price for their console? Does ending preorders in September and October makes sense to you? Tell us in the comments below.
