Four months after the worldwide release of Yakuza: Like a Dragon on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S back in November, Ichiban Kasuga and his ragtag crew of outsiders make their debut on PlayStation 5 today. Not the most exhaustive update for sure, but the new PlayStation 5 version introduces some welcome next-gen improvements, including 60 FPS gameplay, 4K resolution, and better loading times. Developer Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio has pieced together a furiously-paced new trailer to mark the occasion. You can peek at it just below.
While PlayStation 5 owners can buy Yakuza: Like a Dragon outright, PlayStation 4 version owners can upgrade for free. Physical version owners need only pop in the PS4 disc to upgrade, while digital owners can do pick up the upgrade via the PlayStation Store. At least, that’s how it’s supposed to work in theory.
Alongside, SEGA and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio are gifting all owners, regardless of platform, the free Legends Costume Set up until April 2, allowing you to don the dress of fan-favorite characters from the Yakuza series’ stacked back catalog.
No Cross-Gen Save Data Transfers For Yakuza: Like a Dragon
There is, however, one caveat for those jumping from the PlayStation 4 version of Yakuza: Like a Dragon to PlayStation 5: save data isn’t transferable between the two consoles. A fresh save it is then – Like a Dragon‘s charmingly idiosyncratic brand of over-the-top humor certainly deserves a second play-through spruced up by the performance benefits of the PlayStation 5.
Yakuza: Like a Dragon is available in three PS5 editions. More on that from SEGA below.
– The Standard edition ($59.99 available in physical and digital format).
– The Hero Edition ($69.99, available in digital format) includes all features from the Day Ichi Edition, as well unlocking the full in-game job set and Management Mode set.
– Lastly, the Legendary Hero Edition ($89.99, available in digital format) includes all the Hero Edition content as well as the full in-game crafting set, karaoke set, Ultimate Costume set and stat boost set.”
