In more than a year, Yellowstone fans have been wondering whether John, Beth, and Kayce Dutton survived-and now they have an answer. Yellowstone Season 4 premieres dealing with the fallout from the assassination attempts seen in the third season cliffhanger.
Who Died and Who Survived in the Yellowstone Season 4 Premiere?
Different attacks were made on each member of the Dutton family at the same time. As a result of an ambush, John (Kevin Costner) suffered multiple gunshot injuries by the side of the road, someone opened a mysterious package in Beth’s office, and Kayce was shot at the police station. Season 3 of Yellowstone ended with a cliffhanger.
John’s hand is covered in dried blood as the Yellowstone premiere opens. Although he is alive, he is in bad shape. In his blood, he sketched the vehicle the assailants were driving. He is rushed to the hospital by Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser). Kayce is then seen pinned down in the police station. Flipping the desk, he takes cover. A flash-bang grenade stuns the gunmen as they enter the room, but Kayce then shoots them.
In the Yellowstone season 4 premiere, we also see that an explosion caused devastation at Schwartz and Meyer bank, where Beth (Kelly Reilly) was caught in. After emerging from the smoke, Beth is covered in blood, with her clothes half ripped off. While smoking a cigarette, she sits on the side of the road, shell-shocked. When she sits, we see her back is badly burned, perhaps due to the blast. In a telephone conversation, Kayce warned Monica (Kelsey Asbille) not to take their son Tate (Brecken Merrill) to the bunkhouse. Before they make it, an intruder disguised as a clown enters, clearly intending to kill Monica. Tate shoots him in the chest with a shotgun just as he’s about to kill her. This is a technique used a lot in the Yellowstone storyline.
Yellowstone season 4, episode 1, also shows Kayce, using the information John left for them, searching for the people who shot his father. Kayce is caught in the crossfire of a gunfight after tracking down the assassins. Fortunately, his gunshot wound isn’t fatal.
When Monica returns to the ranch, she sees the hands hanging one of the last intruders. The melee left Jimmy injured, and Mia weeps over his body. Jimmy survives, but he is severely injured. In the Yellowstone season 4 premiere, we learn that John survived but was placed in an induced coma for two months.
Even though all members of the Dutton family were injured from the botched assassination attempts, they all survived. Now the search begins for the perpetrator. We’ll not know how this plays out until Yellowstone season 4 proceeds.
Despite the Dutton family surviving, there is one unexpected death in Yellowstone season 4, episode 1. Roarke Morris (Josh Holloway) is fishing in a shallow stream when we see Rip approaching him. As he does, he’s shaking a cooler box containing a venomous snake. The snake bites Roarke on the face, and he slowly dies after frothing at the mouth. As Roarke breathes his last, Rip stands over him and says “good riddance.”
Yellowstone Season 4, Episode 2, All I See Is You, is scheduled for 8 PM eastern time, 7 PM central time on Sunday, November 14. From that point on, each episode will be broadcast weekly on Sundays.
