Makoto Shinkai (creator of the Your Name movie )’s Twitter account just revealed that he is working on another project. At the initial announcement made today, there is nothing else known about the upcoming project.

However, fans on Twitter are speculating (and hoping) that it will be another film. Shinkai announced his surprise by saying, “This is an announcement that I will make a new announcement next week. I’m sorry if I put on an act a little!”
How the Your Name Movie Set the Standard
The critically acclaimed Your Name movie is an animated romantic fantasy film. It was produced by CoMix Wave Films and released by Studio Toho. The story for the film revolves around a high school boy in Tokyo and a high school girl in the countryside who inexplicably begin to swap bodies. There is also a prequel light novel with the same name.
Shinkai’s most recent film was Weathering With You, released in 2019. The film quickly became the #8 highest-earning film in Japan, after Demon Slayer: Mugen Train. His Your Name movie opened in Japan in August 2016. Since its release, your name. has been the fifth highest-grossing film of all time in Japan.
The film also holds the titles of third highest-grossing Japanese film and third highest-grossing anime film. The film earned over 41.44 billion yen worldwide. The Your Name movie also won Best Animated Feature Film at the 49th Sitges Film Festival. The film is also standing at an 8.2/10 average rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Currently, the Your Name movie is available on Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Funimtion. There is also a live-action remake by Paramount Pictures currently in development.
Your Name creator Shinkai will reveal his new work on TOHO’s Youtube channel on December 15th at 11:00 PM JST (9:00 a.m. EST). English subtitles for the announcement video will be added on December 16th.
