Rising star Zendaya made history last night with her Emmy wins for Euphoria. By having a leading actress award under her belt, she is now the first Black woman to win the category twice. She first won the award in 2020 for the HBO drama, which made history too as she became the youngest person to win for best leading actress at 24 years old. In total, she has been nominated for five awards.
The last few years have skyrocketed Zendaya, partially due to her role as Rue in Euphoria, in which she became an executive producer of the series in its second season. The Emmy-winning teen drama has made a few young actors into huge stars, but with her being in the MCU with the Tom Holland Spider-Man trilogy and hopping to other big projects like Dune, she has become one of the biggest eye-catching stars in Hollywood right now.
Only two other actors have won an Emmy at a younger age than Euphoria star Zendaya, although they were for supporting roles. Roxana Zalin 1984 at 14 for Something About Amelia. Before her, there was Kristina McNichol in 1977 at 15 for her role in Family.
Euphoria star Zendaya makes Emmy history
In typical HBO fashion, Zendaya is seen in an intense take on a coming-of-age story with Euphoria. The show found its audience and has resonated with young people, particularly with Rue. Its themes of drug addiction and mental health capture the most tragic stories that can happen to high schoolers.
While Euphoria season 3 is on the horizon, Zendaya is keeping herself busy. She is currently filming Dune: Part Two as she reprises her role as Chani, which should see more of her compared to the first film. In August next year, she will star in Challengers with Josh O’Connor (The Crown) and Mike Faist (West Side Story).
