April has arrived in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. For those of us in the Northern Hemisphere, that means cherry blossoms are blooming and a wealth of new bugs and fish have appeared. However, April has also brought about another, far more terrifying arrival – Zipper T. Bunny.
Bunny Day is a spring event that’s been around since Animal Crossing: City Folk, which also introduced Zipper T. Bunny. But for many, this is their first encounter with the rabbit mascot. Or so he claims to be a rabbit. Zipper, as his name may suggest, has a large zip running down his back. When you talk to him for the first time, he’ll leap up and down while proclaiming “I’m a lucky old bunny, yeppity yipper.” If you try and look at it, he’ll angrily request that you stop. So who is Zipper T. Bunny?
While nobody knows, fans have been questioning who Zipper T. Bunny really is for years. Is he another animal masquerading as a rabbit? Or is Zipper simply a rabbit with an identity crisis? Popular theories have long suggested that it is, in fact, Tom Nook in a bunny suit.
Regardless, Zipper T. Bunny has been spooking Animal Crossing players everywhere. Players have caught him ominously lurking in the background, nothing more than a terrifying silhouette in the distance. He’s also been spotted dropping his “hippity-hoppity” act as soon as you’re out of his line of sight, letting out a hefty sigh as you walk away.

Animal Crossing fans have also been drawing comparisons between Zipper T. Bunny and an equally horrifying rabbit from the Silent Hill series. Robbie the Rabbit has been a staple in the series since Silent Hill 3, and fans haven’t been able to ignore the unsettling similarities. Zipper T. Bunny has also been likened to the Five Nights at Freddy’s series, which features anthropomorphic animals.

It’s hard to ignore these comparisons when they’re so scarily accurate. Zipper T. Bunny has always left me feeling somewhere between confused and uneasy. But surely an Easter egg-loving rabbit can’t be that terrifying…right?
