After multiple references across different Arrowverse shows and even an outright mention of Bruce Wayne and Gotham in Arrow, Gotham city is finally coming to the Arrowverse.
Earlier today, Arrow star Steven Amell revealed that Batwoman will be introduced in the next crossover event.
“We’re incredibly excited to announce that we’ll be doing another crossover event this fall on the CW, and we’ll be introducing a new character. For the very first time appearing, we’ll be fighting alongside Batwoman, which is terrific. The crossover is going to make it to air in December. I need to leave right now and start filming it.”
CW president Mark Pedowitz went further into detail regarding what her introduction will mean. “We are adding the city of Gotham into the Arrowverse,” he added. “This will be another full-throttled action-packed event.”
The news is interesting as not only will the crossover event focus on Batwoman instead of Batman, there has also been no solo show for Batwoman yet. In almost all of the previous instances, crossover episodes have introduced a new main character from a show that had either already been announced or was already airing (i.e Supergirl, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow). More recent crossovers have simply had the large groups together but this will be the biggest one that introduces such an important character with no show.
It’s also rather interesting timing, as Fox has just announced that Gotham will return for it’s fifth and final season on March 1. Alongside a slew of other reasons, the Fox show is likely why we haven’t seen high nor low of Batman in the Arrowverse. One can only wonder if Batwomen’s introduction will test the waters for possibly introducing Batman.
In other Batman news, American premium cable and satellite television network Epix has ordered a prequel series set to revolve around everyone’s favorite butler and surrogate Bat-father, Alfred Pennyworth. While not directly related to the Fox, Arrowverse, or DCEU, Pennyworth will focus on the early days of Alfred.
The Arrowverse crossover event will be coming to the CW at some point this December.
