There are very few games like Catherine. While it’s not the first puzzle platformer adventure video game, the unique subject matter and nightmare scenarios helped it stand out among other PS3 games. It’s been six years since the game released and there has been little to no talk about a sequel. But rumors surrounding a project from the developer of Catherine has sparked interest.
According to known leaker Ryokutya2089, who usually leaks the contents of new issues of Weekly Famitsu and Dengeki PlayStation first, Atlus gaming studio are working on a follow-up to a popular title from the PlayStation 3 era. He also stated that the title does not have a number in it, leading him to believe it may be a “full” version or “all-included remaster,” but added that the title does not have downloadable content.
Alongside all of this, the title was apparently rumored several months ago and will seemingly be announced by the end of 2017. If it is true, that means we should be seeing something within the coming days, as December and 2017 begin to dwindle down.
There are obviously other games that fall into that realm of possibility, including Persona 4 Arena and its sequel Ultimax, but the most likely answer is either a sequel to Catherine or a remaster. Whether it is a remaster or a new game, Atlus fans are going to be excited about more modern content regardless, even if most of them are likely still playing Persona 5.
When Atlus held a “Golden Employment Special” for its 2016-established Studio Zero earlier this year, they ended that broadcast by teasing something Catherine-related to come from the studio. Shortly thereafter, Atlus revealed Studio Zero is indeed working on a second project that will be divulged before its main project, the fantasy RPG Project Re Fantasy.
