In a previous article of mine, I speculated that Cable, Cyclops’ son, would possibly make an appearance in the new film, Logan. Man, was I wrong! It just goes to show that not everybody with a metallic arm is Cable (unfortunately). But, after watching the Deadpool clip before Logan, I saw something that gave my speculations some merit. If you didn’t spot it, then take a look at it below.
That’s right. Nathan Summers aka Cable is “cumming soon”. Leave it to a Deadpool clip to make the announcement as vulgar as possible. But what makes this whole thing even more interesting is the fact that two Firefly posters are placed strategically in the background of the clip. Firefly is a show with a cult following that stars Nathan Fillon, Alan Tudyk, Adam Baldwin, and Summer Glau. The show has long since ended. The placement of these posters could hint at who will be playing Cable in the near future.
There have been talks that Nathan Fillon, the star of Firefly, will be playing Cable in Deadpool 2. These speculations are not only based on talk around the internet but also the hard fact that these posters are plastered in the Deadpool 2 clip. Was Marvel only giving Joss Whedon, the creator of Firefly and director of The Avengers, a nod for all the great work he has done working with their studio? Or did they mean to place the posters there so that fans could figure out the meaning? Heck, maybe Nathan Fillon isn’t going to play him at all, and maybe Alan Tudyk is instead.
Either way, we’re getting a new mutant in the near future. For those of you who are unaware who Cable is… Well, he’s awesome. In the comics, he’s the son of Scott Summers (Cyclops) and Jean Grey’s clone, Madelyne Pryor. He is transported to the future as a baby, where he grows into the mutant that we are accustomed to seeing. He has psionic powers more powerful than his body can handle, and so he is always battling himself to control those abilities so that he can survive. After growing up in the future, he returns to the present. His most prominent role is that within the X-Force, a group of mutants separate from the X-Men. According to the comics, Rictor, a young mutant you see in Logan, becomes part of the X-Force as well. Hmm…
The crossover between Deadpool and Cable has occurred before. In 2004, Marvel released a comic titled Cable & Deadpool that chronicled the journey of these two anti-heroes after they come together–but in a literal sense. Their DNA is combined in a freak accident, and Cable rebuilds his ship (which can be used to teleport). Because of the mixing of their genes, if Cable teleports then Deadpool comes with him. And that’s only the beginning. It’ll be interesting to see how Scott Summers and Madelyne Pryor’s son is incorporated into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and, more interestingly, into Deadpool 2.
