King Charles may now be sitting on the throne as the head of the monarchy. However, before he ascended to the throne, he was a busy working royal who was raising two young princes. When his sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, were young, they were said to be huge fans of popstar Michael Jackson. Of course, the young princes wanted to meet the music icon and they had their chance after their mother, Princess Diana, befriended him. However, Charles swiftly put a stop to the meeting.
During a recent interview on the Anything Goes with James English podcast, Michael Jackson’s former bodyguard spoke out about the situation. Matt Fiddes detailed MJ’s close friendship with Princess Diana, revealing that he was infatuated with the royal.
Prince Charles Wouldn’t Allow Prince William and Prince Harry To Meet Michael Jackson After Princess Diana’s Death
“He used to talk about Diana a lot – he said that she was his ideal wife,” Fiddes stated. “They spent hours on the phone… she used to ring all the time and he used to ring her all the time.”
Sadly, Diana tragically passed away due to injuries suffered in a car accident in 1997. However, Jackson wanted to reach out to Prince William and Prince Harry when he came to London in 2002. Although both princes were interested in meeting the singer, King Charles refused to allow it.
“Prince Harry and Prince William wanted to meet Michael,” Fiddes added. “Obviously they knew their mum was friends with Michael Jackson. She used to go to the Wembley concerts during the ‘Bad’ era and so on. We set it up, for Michael to meet them, but King Charles … we were told he had put a stop to it,” he continued.
“We had a very official letter come through saying ‘Prince William and Prince Harry will not be meeting Michael Jackson.’ That was hard because we had to deliver the news to him, and that’s kind of why he came to London.”
According to OK! Magazine, it’s believed that Charles didn’t want William and Harry to meet Jackson because of his controversial past. The singer, who was beloved by millions around the globe, had his reputation greatly damaged after being accused of sexual assault crimes.
Michael Jackson was never convicted of any crimes before his death in 2009. However, accusations against him continue on. Meanwhile, Prince William and Prince Harry continue to show their love of music and pop culture. William was even recently spotted dancing wildly at a Taylor Swift concert. However, it’s unclear if how they feel about King Charles blocking them from meeting the King of Pop.
