More details continue to come to light about Justin Bieber‘s relationship with Diddy amid the rapper’s arrest. Although the Canadian singer continues to distance himself from the scandal, truth from the past continues to fuel the rumors that something iffy went down.

A resurfaced excerpt from record executive L.A. Reid’s memoir revealed that Usher was the one who indirectly connected Bieber to Diddy. Reid, who is facing sexual assault allegations of his own, wrote that Usher brought the Baby singer to him as a “gift” when he was only 14 years old. He would then introduce the teenager to Sean Combs, and a year later, the infamous “48 hours with Diddy,” where they allegedly went “buck full crazy,” would happen.

Reid recalled in his book how he and Usher, whom he discovered, often exchanged gifts after the singer left his label. In October 2008, he received a call from Usher, saying he “had something he wanted to bring me.” By 4 pm, the Burn singer arrived with “an adorable fourteen-year-old boy” named Justin Bieber. An excerpt from Reid’s book titled Sing to Me read:

“This kid was beautiful, like a woman can be beautiful and men rarely are, and he turned it on as soon as he stepped into the room.”

Bieber immediately sat down at the piano and started singing, Reid recalled. “Usher didn’t just bring me a kid with an amazing voice. He brought me a born entertainer, someone who would become the biggest of them all. When Usher said he had a gift, he wasn’t kidding,” the passage continued, per Daily Mail.

Reid, who helped Diddy set up Bad Boy Records, signed Bieber immediately. The former X Factor judge said he was particularly wowed by the singer’s hair, which “was important as his songs, his voice.”

“Justin was simply beautiful-his superpower was his face. But his hair and his appearance were only part of his charm. Justin had all this natural charisma that instantly transformed him into his own character.”

Reid wasn’t wrong as Bieber rose to become one of the greatest pop stars of all time. Now, amid Diddy’s arrest on sexual assault allegations, the Peaches singer is said to be struggling. He can’t believe someone he looked up to could be guilty of these crimes. “Justin is in a hard place mentally right now,” a source says of the situation. “He has such a history with Diddy, and the allegations against him have been hard to process.”
