Nintendo announced the release of two Mario games for the Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo 3DS, both available today. Those two games are New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe (Available on the Switch) and Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story + Bowser Jr.’s Journey (Available on the 3DS). Doug Bowser, VP of Sales and Marketing for Nintendo stated:
“After a strong 2018, both Nintendo Switch and Nintendo 3DS add to their large and diverse libraries with two solid games starring Mario and friends. Nintendo is giving fans on both platforms good options to kick off their entertainment in 2019.”
New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe has both New Super Mario Bros U and New Super Luigi U included in it. The game will also include Toadette as a brand new character, who will offer extra assistance during play for newer or younger characters. It is a classic side-scrolling game with 164 levels. The game also includes up to four-player multiplayer mode. It’s currently available for purchase on Nintendo Switch for $59.99.
Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story + Bowser’s Jr.’s Journey is a remake of a classic game for the Nintendo 3DS. All of the original content is included, but the graphics and gameplay have been improved. There is also a new original mode starring Bowser Jr. as he works to build an army and support his allies. The game is currently available for $39.99 and can be played on the Nintendo 2DS, the New Nintendo 2DS XL, as well as the 3DS.
It is a nice way for Nintendo to kick off 2019. But, to be fair, many of the Mario games lack a unique feel and flavor to tell them each apart. And the constant re-releasing of old titles can get lackluster. That being said, there is still much simple entertainment to find in these games and they are good for multiplayer when players are looking for some easy entertainment with friends and family.
