20th Century Fox has revealed this morning their plans to celebrate the Alien franchise, starting April 26.
The date April 26 is a reference to LV-426, an important planet in the Alien lore. The global event will have screenings of all the movies, including some never-before-seen products, and an online event called the Alien: Ultimate Trivia Challenge, which will let fans try to win prizes by answering various questions about the movies every 42.6 minutes on Twitter. Fans will need to register their Twitter account at AlienAnthology.com to be eligible to win during the trivia contest. The questions will be posted on AlienAnthology Twitter account, and can be answered simply by using the hashtags #AlienDay426 and #Contest.
Fans will also be able to deck themselves out on some sweet footwear, such as the Alien Stomper shoes by Reebok, famously worn by Sigourney Weaver’s Ellen Ripley and the mid tops worn by Android Bishop, portrayed by Lance Henriksen.
If toys and figures are more your thing then 20th Century Fox has got you covered, with the Lieutenant Vasquez and Newt figure from NECA and Ellen Ripley figure by Kenner-toy. Funko will also be releasing a special set containing the Alien Queen and Power Loader Ripley.
And of course, Dark Horse Comics will have something special to offer as well, in the form of exclusive covers for participating retailers for the current running Alien series, and a special 30th anniversary hardcover of the Alien series from 1986. The newest entry in the Rage War series, titles Alien: Invasion written by Tim Lebbon will also be releasing April 26.
For a while fans of the Alien franchise have unofficially celebrated April 26 on their own. Their enthusiasm and love for the films is what caught the attention of 20th Century Fox president Jeffrey Godsik, “We noticed that fans of the Alien films were starting to rally around the calendar date of April 26th — given the connection to the planet LV-426. Quite simply, it gave us the idea to do something special on this day; to officially mark the occasion alongside fans and to build excitement online, in stores and once again, in theaters.”
