With so much going on in the world at the moment — from politics to wildfires to crazy Karens — it’s easy to overlook the sad realities that some lonely individuals face behind closed doors. Indeed, oftentimes, those who’re isolated and alone have nobody to turn to in times of struggle and distress. Recently, a heart-wrenching and emotional video from a man in Mississippi, named Jeremy Hopper, shed light on his personal situation. In a tragic turn of events, Jeremy is the last surviving member of his family, and he shared his thoughts in an emotional video on TikTok that has since gone viral.

The 59-second clip begins with the 27-year-old stood in front of a mirror, recording from his phone. Straightaway, it’s clear that Jeremy is deeply upset, with tears in his eyes. “Actually re-done this a couple of times,” he expresses, wiping his nose with a tissue. He continues his heart-on-sleeve speech: “My name is Jeremy Hopper and it’s nice to meet y’all… to anyone who sees this. But I’m the last member of my family left. There ain’t nobody else. They’ve passed away.” As he says this he shrugs, sadly.

You can tell that Jeremy is fighting back the tears of emotion while delivering his emotive words: “I’m 27 and my momma died before she was even 40.” He takes in a deep breath before continuing, “My baby brother, baby sister, both passed away as infants. And today I realised, that if anything were to happen to me today, not a single person on this earth would know I was gone. And I truly doubt that anyone would care. And I want some record that I existed. That I was here.” It’s at this point, at the end of the clip, where Jeremy’s brave face begins to crack as an outpouring of emotion takes hold of him.

Incredibly, the footage has deeply resonated with social media users on TikTok, and has gone viral with over 2.3M hearts, over 183k comments, and over 130k bookmarks. Commenters were united in sending their warm regards and love to the sole survivor of the Hopper family. One TikTok user wrote,

We see you brother and I swear you matter.

A second commenter wrote: “2 MILLLION man. 2 MILL of us KNOW about you and will keep you in our prayers man you are not alone king 💪🏽”

A further TikTok user added, “listen i don’t have any family either so I’ve always wanted a little bro so now u got a big sis“

In a follow-up video, Jeremy took to TikTok to express his gratitude for all the kind words that have been sent his way by netizens around the globe. In it, he looks a lot happier, and opens up about the success of his video, saying: “I did not expect that video to blow up like that, at least as quickly as it did. Especially given with everything going on with the app.” He then brings into frame a white chihuahua puppy called Ellie, which he is holding in his left arm, and expresses, “Thank you, everybody. I was in the dumps, to say the least. Everyone who left kind words, thank you. You helped me today.”
