Survival horror? Stealth? Rescuing children from abduction? If that sounds up your alley, you should probably be keeping an eye on 2Dark. Created by Frederick Raynal, who brought us the classic Alone in the Dark, 2Dark looks like a disturbing and original take on the survival horror genre. Check out the trailer highlighting the game’s mechanics below:

It checks a lot of the “indie game” boxes, but it also looks like a fairly new take on survival horror. Players take control of a former detective, Mr. Smith, in the not-at-all-foreshadowed-named town Gloomywood (which is also the name of the development studio). A mysterious number of children in the town have gone missing, and you must sneak through the lairs of the kidnappers, which are filled with traps, patrols, and other nasty scenarios. Then you have to do it all again, in reverse, to escort the children to safety.
2Dark looks brutal, intense, and disturbing. It could also go wrong in a lot of ways. Few words send chills down a gamer’s spine like “escort mission,” and that is a core mechanic of the gameplay. Since it isn’t a tacked on an aspect of a bigger game, and with the credentials that Raynal brings to the table, we can hopefully remain confident that 2Dark gets it right. It has a really cool aesthetic, like an extremely twisted version of Gravity Falls, and it does sound like a fairly novel title.
2Dark comes out next week on Match 10th. It will be released on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Stay tuned as we find out more information on the title.
