While it is more than normal to have some events in the state that bring certain communities together, a few of them tend to gather a few bad looks for certain reasons. One example of this is an upcoming vegan event that will take place in 2027 at the Orange Springs Retreat Center in Florida. And while it sounds great on paper, as it is a way to bring vegans together, some people think it might not be a good idea to attend, allegedly because it has a steep entry price.
What started as a normal and innocent post by one Redditor in the Florida subreddit blew out of proportion. See, in this post, the OP talks about how they are hosting an event for 200 vegans, which will last four days and will take place in the aforementioned place.
According to the post, there are plans to have several activities, inflatable obstacle courses, a giant lake, and more things to do together. And, as the OP says, the 200 attendees will be secluded, meaning that no one will bother or interrupt them.
While all of the above sounds great on paper, one alleged Redditor who is supposedly from the vegan community in Florida commented, saying that they thought the event was a “scam” and that they needed to pay $2,000. The post’s owner eventually replied to that comment, saying that the price tag is to cover all expenses for those who attend the event, but it seems some still think that it is a bit expensive. On top of that, the comments mentioned the event has a “no refund” policy, which didn’t sit well with those interacting with the post.
Florida Redditors Think the Event is a Bit Expensive
At the time of writing, the post has received a few mixed reactions, with some excited about the vegan community in Florida gathering, while others believe that the price feels off for this type of event.
“2k per person? Really?“
“As someone who has been a vegan in central Florida for a very, very long time, this event is a total scam, but it starts at $2k per person, so at least not that many people will be scammed.“
Still, OP replied in the comments, talking about why they were pricing the event that way.
“The retreat is also not simply “$2,000 to share a room.” The cost covers the full multi-day experience, including accommodations, vegan meals, programming, activities, speakers/coaches, venue costs, staffing, and everything that goes into producing the event.“
Despite the above comment, some are still not sure about the event and are unfortunately criticizing OP and the whole vegan community.
