After a stylish tease from Ben Affleck last week, it has been confirmed that Joe Manganiello will indeed don Deathstroke’s blue and orange mask. The deadly assassin will is only confirmed to appear in the solo Batman film, which is still without a release date.
The solo Batman film will be directed and co-written by Affleck. It is tentatively titled The Batman, and rumors point to Deathstroke only being one of the Dark Knights foes that make an appearance. The footage that surfaced on Affleck’s Twitter account last week showed a fully costumed Deathstroke slowly walking towards the screen. He stopped just before the camera, turning so you could see his one exposed eye.
The internet quickly erupted, wondering where the character would first make an appearance. Some think that he may still show up in Justice League, which is still filming. Either way, we will see Deathstroke in his newest live action interpretation in the next couple of years.
The character was first introduced in 1980 as a Teen Titans villain. He later transitioned to fighting more mainline DC heroes such as Green Arrow and, of course, The Batman. He is often characterized by his orange and blue outfit, swords, and large arsenal of guns. Only one side of his mask has an eye slot because one of his eyes is covered by an eyepatch. He appeared in Arrow season 2, portrayed by Manu Bennett.
The next DC movie slated for release is 2017’s Wonder Women, followed by Justice League later in the year. The studios previous two cinematic efforts, Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad, were both critically panned. So 2017 is certainly the year for DC to prove that they have what it takes to pull off a cinematic universe with the size and scope of Marvels.
