Honkai: Star Rail and Genshin Impact are two different Gacha games by the same company, HoYoverse. Despite having different gameplay styles, characters, and worlds, many of the non-gameplay elements, such as the Gacha system, are almost identical. This has led many fans to compare the two games, seeking to find which one is better. Of course, there are elements in both games that some players may prefer. For example, players looking for open-world exploration should play Genshin Impact. However, there are still many things, like combat and rewards, that Honkai: Star Rail does better overall. Here are 5 things that Honkai: Star Rail does, in both gameplay and story, better than Genshin Impact.
5. Honkai Has Better Content Density Than Genshin
Although for some, this may be a negative, Honkai: Star Rail has a much more condensed map than Genshin Impact. Despite removing some of the world exploration, Honkai: Star Rail requires less exploration and walking to reach new game content. For example, when heading to a new area for a quest, players won’t be expected to walk more than a short distance. On the other hand, Genshin Impact‘s map is sometimes too large for its own good. If players don’t have the right Teleport Waypoints, reaching a quest may require a few minutes of travel. Additionally, with many distractions along the way, finishing a quest may be hard for some players.
4. An Extra Relic Slot Helps Honkai Star Rail’s Build Customization
In both Honkai: Star Rail and Genshin Impact, gear comes in the form of Relics and Artifacts respectively. Genshin Impact players use five Artifact slots, with special set bonuses coming from having two or four matching Artifact types. However, Honkai: Star Rail features six Relic slots. Of these slots, four are just like Genshin Impact and include the same set bonus potential. On top of this, the two additional slots have their set bonus that characters can benefit from. This extra slot helps increase the amount of build customization a character can have in Honkai: Star Rail. For example, one character can have three active two-piece set bonuses. In Genshin Impact, a character can only have a max of two active set bonuses at one time.
3. Honkai Star Rail Gives Better and Faster Rewards
Both Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail feature an identical currency system. Overall, both Primogems and Stellar Jade can be traded in at a rate of 180 for one Gacha roll. From the recent launch of Honkai: Star Rail, rewards have been extremely plentiful. Although this probably won’t stay forever, for now, Honkai is providing the most rewards. Additionally, due to Honkai: Star Rail having a smaller map size and less loot available in the wild, each chest gives more currency. This means that Honkai: Star Rail players should be able to get more resources from the same amount of grinding.
2. Honkai Has More Strategic Combat Than Genshin Impact
Although it’s hard to compare the gameplay of Honkai: Star Rail and Genshin Impact, overall, Honkai has the more strategic combat of the two. For many, Genshin‘s action-based combat can feel too mash-heavy. Oftentimes, players will have one simple rotation of characters and abilities that they use with little deviation. Additionally, different characters and parties rarely have a massive impact on gameplay. Again, everything boils down to spamming basic attacks and abilities on cooldown for the greatest effect. For Honkai, however, the gameplay feels like it has another tactical layer. Builds and synergies in this game feel more impactful, which may be due to the slower-paced, turn-based combat. Although this style isn’t for everyone, it gives players more to think about in combat strategy-wise.
1. Honkai Star Rail Players Can Revisit Old Events
Finally, something that fans have been asking for in Genshin Impact is the ability to replay old, limited events. For new players or players who missed an event, it is currently impossible to get a chance to experience that content. Currently, HoYoverse is adding this mechanic to Genshin Impact, but so far, players are still waiting. Luckily, Honkai: Star Rail has already implemented this into the game. Although there haven’t been many events yet, this will be a major quality-of-life improvement over Genshin Impact. In the end, although this may seem small, it’s minor improvements like these that help set Honkai: Star Rail apart from its predecessors.
