Veterans are now speaking up against the Donald Trump administration. Following plans to make massive cuts to the Department of Veterans Affairs, an 80-year-old Virginia resident, Richard Hobcraft Allan III, is taking drastic steps to ensure his voice is heard!
On Monday morning, Allan, dressed in an all-black ensemble, protested against the government outside the White House. He chained himself to a signpost with his hands inside a white metal pipe. The pipe had an inscription that read, “King Trump & Pres. Musk are Killing Veterans.”
While speaking to reporters, the elderly citizen vented his anger towards the president’s treatment of veterans. Allan explained that enough has been done, and retired soldiers won’t stand for the oppression from Trump’s government. As such, they would be rallying en masse across the nation on March 14, 2025.
“We believe that an unelected leader is killing our fellow veterans, and something must be done. We cannot take illegal orders, and we are sworn to defend our country against domestic enemies. Domestic enemies are breaking our government.”
When police officers approached the protest scene, the retired citizen wasted no time telling them his reason. After hearing the old man’s plight, the law enforcement officers left him alone and even wished him well in his endeavor.
Allan passionately criticized the government’s actions that endangered veterans. According to the elderly man, the leadership had cut their budget by half, thereby affecting healthcare. Additionally, about 1,000 staff members were laid off across the country.
Netizens Stand In Solidarity With Veterans Opposing Donald Trump’s Regime
The protest has earned support from Internet users. Netizens gathered in numbers under the YouTube post commending Allan while criticising the president’s administration. One online ally wrote, “He is right, they are killing veterans; what a disgrace!”
Another netizen pledged support to the old man and geared the man to “Save the American Constitution.” A third Internet user praised the elderly man’s effort and called out members of society to support him. Another commenter expressed how touched he was by the old man’s protest.
“This guy brought tears to my eyes. Just think, after serving your country and also reaching retirement age, you should get to do that—retire. And here he’s having to go to extremes to speak out against domestic terrorism wrought upon us from the White House.”
As Allan’s protest continues to draw more support online, some users are worried about his well-being. Although the senior citizen initially planned to remain chained until authorities arrested him, he changed his mind and will now direct his energy toward the upcoming march.
In the meantime, Allan, who called his protest an “appetizer,” urged citizens to put the video on their social media and support his cause.
