Nintendo has revealed that the long-anticipated Luigi’s Mansion 3 will be releasing this year on Halloween, keeping in line with the series’ spooky atmosphere.

After some scarce looks at gameplay these past few months, and a general release date of 2019 promised for most of that time, it’s nice to see that Luigi’s Mansion 3 finally has a proper release date, let alone such a well-timed one. The game will feature the standard single-player story that fans of the series have come to expect, where Luigi is tasked to suck up a whole bunch of ghosts with the assistance of Professor E. Gadd, as well as more fleshed-out local and online multiplayer modes.

The story has Luigi alongside Mario, Peach and several Toads going to stay in the Last Resort Hotel, which to their surprise, is loaded with vengeful ghosts. Luigi must then utilize his arsenal of new tools to defeat them all and save his friends and family. The player is still able to get rid of these ghosts using their trusty Poltergust vacuum cleaner, which has now been upgraded to the Poltergust G-00, but many new abilities have been added to the supernatural dust-buster.

Luigi can now not just suck up ghosts, but also slam them against the ground and into surrounding furniture to further damage them, and possibly unearth hidden objects in the environment. There’s also now the suction shot, which allows Luigi to attach a plunger to seemingly many different objects, and then slam them in order to move or destroy them. Lastly, there is the tool/buddy Gooigi, a gooey slime version of Luigi who the player can switch to solve specific puzzles such as slipping through grates or avoiding certain hazards, and who can also act as a co-op partner if a friend wants to join in.

Luigi’s Mansion 3 will release on October 31st for Nintendo Switch.
