This article is over 10 years old and may contain outdated information.

So with all the hype around Fallout 4 fresh in the air it seems only fair to bring up this gem of a article ย about speed runner Ryderc33 and his amazing Fallout New Vegas speed run, beating the previously held record by 3 minutes and 22 seconds, doesn’t seem like much but to a speed runner every second counts, the difference could be first or second place so that is a hugely significant chunk of time.

Considering I take longer to set up my character and meticulously search every box, cupboard, fridge and chest I can see making me no competition at all.

If I can interact with it then I’ll interact with it.

But this isn’t a celebration of my achievements this is all about one man and his mission to go faster than anyone else thought possible, the previous record was clocked at 0.27.16 but this new record smashed that coming in at 0.24.54.

He starts by accepting all the answers with the first available option and stealing everything in Doc Mitchells house then bolting off to Goodsprings Cemetery where he intentionally breaks his own leg while quick saving, don’t worry though guys this was all part of his plan revealing that:

” When you cripple your leg, you get slower, and then when you heal it, youโ€™re supposed to get your speed back. By quickloading just before getting crippled, you can confuse the game into giving you the speed back without actually ever losing it ( because we donโ€™t actually really get crippled). So you get a huge speedboost, and walk at 165% of your walking speed.

This speedboost can appear in two versions : One which is โ€œbreakableโ€, it will last as long as you donโ€™t quickload again. The second one is โ€œunbreakableโ€, you can quickload or load a game without losing it.

The glitch is pretty hard to get, because it need a precise timing, which can vary with your configuration, framerate, and other thing that we probably donโ€™t know about yet.”

But don’t worry the story gets even better as he then beats that record by a further 0.39 seconds only 24 hours later.

He’s already claiming he could beat that record all ready

ย “I could save maybe 15 more second by getting the glitch first try, but it would be masochism to do so. So I’ll stop with that time for the moment.”

Be sure to check out the video below to see the amazing run in action.
