Asmodee Digital, a game company known for its board games, has just announced The Lord of the Rings: Adventure Card Game on Steam.
The title is the first adventure card game set in the fantasy world by J.R.R. Tolkien and will see players competing against each other or the computer during solo or cooperative adventures.
Inspired by the cooperative Living Card Game, The Lord of the Rings: Adventure Card Game will combine strong narrative elements with several deck-building strategies.
Players will be able to build their own Fellowship of the Ring deck choosing heroes from some of the most iconic characters of the saga to wage battle in the most famous locations of the Third Age of Middle-earth. Each deck will be based around three heroes with unique abilities. All other cards will be drawn according to the initial three based on links to the story of The Lord of the Rings.
Gamers will progress through their story facing and defeating the forces of Sauron in combat, and by using Willpower to resolve Objectives. Willpower can also be added to the Fate Pool, an in-game element used to trigger contextual abilities during a Quest.
An on-screen Threat Meter will also display the increasing danger from Sauron, activating random roadblocks designed to disrupt player strategies.
The game is available now on Steam for PC and Mac for $19.99, while PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and Xbox One players will have to wait until Autumn 2019.
The Lord of the Rings: Adventure Card Game also includes the Encounter 3: Gundabad Awoken storyline, an extra mode sending players into the Orcish stronghold of Gundabad. All Early Access players will receive the OST for free on Steam as a reward for their involvement in improving the digital version.
