Oxonmoot, the annual Tolkien gathering for fans of the Lord of the Rings, the Hobbit, and The Silmarillion author and professor, has opened bookings for the event this year. It will run from the 13th to the 15th of September at St. Anthony’s College, Oxford. Details of what to expect for this year have also been released, building upon the increasing attendance each year since it’s inception in 1974.

There will be a Welcome Dinner the first night for attendees to be acquainted. One of the most popular events is the Percival Quiz, which takes place in the Bar after the dinner. The Telerin Circle will take place after the quiz, but right now details are still being decided.

The largest event is certainly the Masquerade. Tolkien fans will be able to celebrate all evening long with singing, dancing, and performing all in costume. It will certainly be a good chance to see cosplay of the various characters and races of Middle-Earth.

There is the usual Sunday visit to Tolkien’s grave where the chair of the Tolkien Society will read aloud his work, and guests have the special opportunity to say some words out loud about the professor.

There will be several talks throughout Saturday. Among these include “Tolkien’s Mythology – past, present, and future”, “Hidden faces and symbols in Tolkien Art”, “Architecture of Middle-Earth onscreen”, and the “Tolkien Art Show”. Speakers include Daria Belyaeva, Sandra Harti, Len Sanford, and Denis Bridoux among others.

Oxonmoot has always been scheduled close to the shared birthdays of both Bilbo and Frodo Baggins, which are the 22nd of September. If you want to reserve your spot in this event to celebrate the life of the creator of Middle-Earth, you can still do so here. With a brand new Middle-Earth based television show by Amazon that will take place during events in The Silmarillion, this year is an exciting time to attend.
