This morning, Remedy Entertainment gave fans a quick update on the future of their latest game Control, including a tease of a crossover featuring one of their past games, Alan Wake.

To start, Control will receive a photo mode coming sometime this fall. The new featuring is free to all players to take photos of Jesse and the haunting Oldest House.

Next, a new game mode called Expeditions that โ€œwill be a challenging new end-game mode in which Jesse must help Security Chief Arish explore the mysterious Formation and its strange surroundings.โ€ Expeditions will have you โ€œface some of the greatest challenges that the Oldest House can throw at you,โ€ so it looks like the excellent combat will be a major focus for the new mode. Expeditions is also free for all players and is expected to launch this December.

Remedy also detailed two paid content expansions, which is something weโ€™ve already known is coming. Both The Foundation and AWE will launch in early 2020 and mid-2020, respectively. Both expansions will include new story missions, enemies, and mechanics. The Foundation will delve into the history of the Oldest House at the request of the Board. Remedy notes to expect things to get weird.

AWE will take Jesse to a new location in the Oldest House, the Investigations Sector. Remedy didn’t detail much else about AWE, but the roadmap image hints at the possible crossover. Look close enough, and youโ€™ll see the AWE logo split in half. The top half features the box art for Remedyโ€™s 2010 cult-classic Xbox 360 game, while the bottom half shows the stark red imagery Control fans should expect.

Alan Wake, of course, was an Xbox 360 exclusive that first launched in 2010. The game followed the titular Alan Wake, an author trying to uncover the mystery behind his wifeโ€™s disappearance in the town of Bright Falls. While Microsoft published the original game, Remedy regained the full rights to the IP in July of this year.

While this may come as a shock, you might have figured this crossover was bound to happen. Throughout Control, youโ€™ll stumble across collectibles that help flesh out the world. Eventually, youโ€™ll find documents hinting that hint the events of Alan Wake were an โ€œAltered World Eventsโ€ or AWE. Maybe weโ€™ll see a true Alan Wake sequel sometime in the future after all.

We gave Control a four out of five highlighting the gameโ€™s combat and strange elements to its story, even if it has some shortcomings. You can read our full review here.
