Sega Games have just revealed various guest characters for Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. The sixth entry in the long-running sports game crossover between the video game icons adds Rosalina for Surfing, Rouge the Bat for Climbing, Diddy Kong for Rugby, Larry Koopa for Equestrian, Zazz for Table Tennis, Ludwig von Koopa for Fencing, Jet the Hawk for Soccer, and Doctor Eggman Nega for Karate-the antagonist from Sonic Rush. Some of the characters already revealed include Waluigi, Baby Bowser, Silver the Hedgehog, Metal Sonic, and more.

The first trailer for the game debuted at E3 2019 and focused on the traditional 3D Olympian gameplay fans was already familiar with, such as marathon running, horse, racing, track and field, boxing, skateboarding, and many more. New sports have been added such as surfing, sport climbing, and karate. In the most recent trailer, 2D events set in the 1964 Tokyo Olympics were revealed, along with 8-bit versions of Nintendo characters and 16-bit versions of Sega characters-as both series originally debuted on systems with those graphical capabilities.

What’s also exciting are the recently announced “Dream Events” which add a sense of fantasy and arcade-style fun to real sports. Some of these Dream Events include “Dream Shooting”, Dream Karate”, and “Dream Racing”. In Dream Shooting, you’ll dash around a Japanese estate and fire at targets and balloons to score points. In Dream Racing you’ll grab a hoverboard (like the Sonic racing game, Sonic Riders) and dash downhill while doing tricks, grinding on rails, and grabbing Mario-style power-ups. In Dream Karate you’ll face off against opponents on platforms that light up as you defeat your enemies and take over parts of the stage.

Mario & Sonic at the Olympics Tokyo 2020 is out on Nintendo Switch on November 5th for North America and November 8th for Europe.
