Developers, Playtonic Games, have today announced via social media that theirย Banjo-Kazooieย spiritual successor,ย Yooka-Laylee,ย will receive a new update. This enhancement will allow the already patched 64-bit art style to incorporate into its character model, harkening back to the Nintendo-64 days of gaming.

You asked us to add a Yooka 64 model into Yooka-Laylee (the original) to compliment the 64-bit Tonic, so we're happy to announce we are working on that, and getting the Tonic on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 finally too! pic.twitter.com/LHSFvLoUoO

Kickstarted back in 2014, Yooka-Layleeย promised to bring back the platforming style from the Nintendo-64 era. Following the release in 2017, Yooka-Laylee was metย with a mixed response by critics. Fans, however, have shown a strong love for the franchise and kept the game community alive.

Playtonic has regularly released patches enhancing the experience, ranging from customizable voice options to the inclusion of the 64-bit mode. But fans raised interest in ensuring the main character model was updated to compliment this style. An in-game vendor (portrayed as an in-game character known as, Vendi) allows players to use tonics to cater to their Yooka-Layleeย playthrough. By using the 64-but tonic, the art style will also downgrade the style of the lead character to match.

This announcement comes before the release of the upcoming sequel, Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair, due for release on October 8th. Reviews for the game are already highly positive, praising its platforming, style, and level design. The game is said to be heavily influenced by the likes of Donkey Kong Country.

There is no set release date for the upcoming update, but Playtonic will no doubt keep everyone updated via social media channels. The update for Yooka-Layleeย is set to release for all platforms. This will also be the first time the 64-bit tonic has been available for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Previously only available on PC and Nintendo Switch.

Yooka-Laylee is available now for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lairย is set to release on October 8th on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and PC.
