Steam has launched the Remote Play Together feature in the newest beta update. The new feature allows friends to play local multiplayer games online through Steam’s network system.
To access the feature, you must be using the newest Steam beta. To access the beta, go to your Steam preferences and set your beta participation to Steam Beta Update. After Steam updates, all you need to do is start a game and invite a friend to play. Selecting the Remote Play Together tab will allow up to four players to join in on the fun.
Not only does this include local multiplayer games, but also local cooperative and split-screen games as well.

Over 4,000 games support the update, with more to come. Some games supporting the new feature include Rocket League, Divinity: Original Sin 2, and The Jackbox Party Pack 6.
When your friends join a game, their controllers will connect automatically. Friends can also use a keyboard and mouse to play if you allow them to. Like a new version of the Download Play on the Nintendo DS, Remote Play Together only needs one copy of the game for everyone to play. It even works across PC, Mac, and Linux so everyone can play together.
When playing a game together, friends can only see the gameplay on screen. Your desktop and other information are hidden from view, for those concerned about their privacy. Given this is a beta period, some issues might occur during play. Valve encourages participants to report any issues in their Discussion Forums.
In addition to this, the beta update also changes the look of your Steam home page and how games are sorted. You can now filter games through several settings and organize games in different collections.
