Back in 2006, Outerlight released The Ship. In The Ship, players were tasked with assassinating a certain passenger, whilst at the same time trying to avoid being assassinated themselves. In addition to this, players strangely also had a set of Sims-like needs that they had to maintain to ensure their character didn’t become impaired or die.

Whilst the game had its fans it never reached classic status and quickly faded into memory. So it was surprising to see that games studio Blazing Griffin recently posted a teaser trailer for The Ship: HD.

It turns out Blazing Griffin bought the game rights off of Outerlight in 2011 and recently posted that development on The Ship: HD had started with an intended release date of early 2016 – 10 years after the original games release. Although it’s still very early on in development, it appears that this will be more than the standard HD remake of just upping the texture resolution.

Blazing Griffin states that The Ship: HD is just the start of their long term vision for the series, and that a lot of the work that will go into the remake will contribute to future games.

We appreciate that most of you reading this may have preferred to hear about a sequel to The Ship, rather than the HD version.   While we don’t have any firm plans regarding a sequel right now, we do have a long term vision for the franchise.  With this in mind, much of the work being carried out for The Ship: HD will also contribute to future projects. – Blazing Griffin

There is no word yet on if The Ship: HD will be a complete remake – made up of both the single player campaign and the multiplayer component. Or if it will include all new content and new game modes. And as for what future games Blazing Griffin have planned and how they intend to turn it into a successful franchise; that is anyone’s guess.

Did you ever play or still play The Ship? What would you like to see in the remake? Post in the comments below and let us know your thoughts.
