A landmark JRPG, SaGa Scarlet Grace: Ambitions finally gets released for the first time in the west.
Square Enix announced today that SaGa Scarlet Grace: Ambitions is now available on to purchase digitally on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Steam, the App Store, and Google Play.
SaGa Scarlet Grace: Ambitions is an enhanced version of the once Japan-exclusive SaGa Scarlet Grace. SaGa. The enhanced version adds several new improvements and updates to the game, including improved graphics, new voice acting, new skills, and more.
The Saga series is a bit of a glimpse into the alternate timeline where the design ideas from Final Fantasy VI caught on in a considerable way. The game features multiple protagonists and an unrestrictive free scenario system, which builds a multi-layered story experience. The ‘timeline system’ at the core of the battles brings added depth to the gameplay, with mechanics such as ‘Inspire’ and ‘Formations,’ alongside a highly unique character progression system that moves away from traditional character level-up systems. A lot of the design DNA of the SaGa games ended up informing last year’s Octopath Traveler.
The setting of SaGa Scarlet Grace: Ambitions is full of post-apocalyptic conflict. A fallen god called The Firebringer attacked and destroyed large parts of the planet. To survive, humanity built an Empire to defend themselves from this creature. Eventually, after a millennium of fighting, the Firebringer was defeated, and without a unifying purpose, the Empire fell into rebellion. Amid the chaos, four adventurers set out on journeys that will change them and the world. This world is home to the four protagonists of the game, Urpina, Taria, Balmain, and Leonard. Each character has their own unique storyline, allowing players to experience four different adventures in one game.
