2Awesome Studios has announced it’s second game Aeon Drive! Aeon Drive is a follow up to the studio’s previous game, Dimension Drive. Though the studio has confirmed that both games share the same universe and main character, (interstellar pilot, Jackelyne) they are completely different genres. While Dimension Drive was a scrolling space shooter, Aeon Drive will focus on what happens after the pilot gets out of their ship. Set in a cyberpunk version of beautiful Barcelona, players will use abilities like time control and teleportation to defeat platforming and combat challenges.

The main focus of the gameplay is on time management and players can even manipulate how much time is left on their clock. Though the reveal trailer does not show players much, the developers have provided a few more details on what to expect in their newest adventure. At least we got to see their beautiful pixel cyberpunk city!

Aeon Drive’s Key Features:

  • Speed-running platformer mechanics.
  • Eye-catching quality synthwave pixel art style.
  • Enjoy a sweet and shooty holiday in a cyberpunk version of tourist darling Barcelona.
  • An advanced scoring system that enables long term replayability.
  • Real-time difficulty adjustment – collect time-warping devices and use them strategically!
  • Compete against friends and Ashajuls through Discord integration.
  • Streaming mode to share your exploits with the rest of the galaxy.

When talking about time warping, the team talks about them in terms of replacing other traditional game mechanics. They describe them by saying:

“Instead of using the usual try/die/repeat loop of most videogames, Aeon Drive features a unique time-warping system that saves players the frustration of repetition and keeps the challenge fresh. Is this level too hard? No problem, just recharge your timer before you run out of time and get those few seconds you need to beat the level.”

Now that the game announced, the new title has created some buzz at various shows. For this reason, it is nominated to the Valencia Indie Awards 2020, Game Connection San Francisco 2020, Courage XL at GDC and the European Game Showcase at GDC.

Aeon Drive will arrive for PC and consoles this summer, and a free alpha will be available through their Discord sometime soon.

Happy Gaming Friends!
