Sony Interactive Entertainment may be having the ‘best year ever’ in 2020. One of the biggest pieces of news for PlayStation players will be the release of Final Fantasy VII Remake. It is an adaption of the original storyline with updated graphics and battle mechanics. While Sony certainly has a multitude of news to tell the fans, this time, it isn’t simple development issues affecting their press tour this year. Amid growing concerns about the spread of Covid-19, or Coronavirus, Sony may be bowing out of more appearances.

The Game Developers Conference is scheduled for March 16-20. But due to concerns about the outbreak, Sony Interactive Entertainment said this to GI.biz:

We are disappointed to cancel our participation, but the health and safety of our global workforce is our highest concern. We look forward to participating in GDC in the future.

It is understandable why they are bowing out. But many may consider a rash decision. As far as the spread in the U.S., there have only been a few isolated cases. The good news is a research team is possibly close to a cure. But despite the good news on the research front, the majority of people are taking no chances. The main body of Sony Interactive Entertainment will not be in attendance. But reports state they will still have a booth to showcase a few new things.

Companies are already delaying their products. So what does this mean for the PlayStation 5? With the release set to be on November 12, GDC may be where Sony Interactive wanted to showcase its power.

This is the second scheduled appearance in the near future they’ve chosen not to attend. Hopefully, things will soon get under control, and the game industry as a whole gets back to normal.
