In a few recent posts from Obsidian’s own employment subsection, they have revealed key details about their next project, including a new RPG. They have given updates on their summer internship.

A quick history of Obsidian recently:

As of late, Obsidian has worked on some key RPGs such as the fantastic Pillars of Eternity and the recent The Outer Worlds. In the latter half of 2018, Microsoft acquired Obsidian. After finishing The Outer Worlds, they went to work on Grounded( a huge survival sim where you are the size of an ant) One would assume that this is all they’re working on currently as it seems like a big project, but their recent update suggests otherwise

Possible RPG:

32 positions have been announced on the page, so We’ll only go through a few. Feel free to look through them for yourself.

“Obsidian Entertainment is looking for a summer intern to participate in the Obsidian University Internship Program. This role will work with the programming and design team to assist in developing our next big RPG”

In this post for a summer intern programmer, they state the role would be working on a new big RPG. As Grounded is not a big RPG, one must assume this is an unannounced RPG. The role of tools programmer further states, “come help us make our next world-class RPG” Exciting news.  The word “Next ” implies it’s not yet released so that it couldn’t be DLC for The Outer Worlds.

The Outer Worlds DLC:

While Obsidian didn’t directly address this directly, their change of wording for certain roles could suggest this. For instance, in their character animator position, they mentioned “creating content for a high profile role-playing game” rather than their next RPG. Furthermore, they specify a focus on animating both human and non-humanoid characters, something The Outer Worlds is filled to the brim with.

Of course, as always, while the information is accurate, it doesn’t account for a change in plans. One can only suggest where Obsidian is going; next, they must decide whether they will actually go there. Regardless of this, the only constant one can guarantee going forward is that we’ll be intrigued irrespective of what genre they choose to explore

There’s no more information on this position and game as of yet, but following The Nerd Stash is an excellent way to keep up to date with gaming news, reviews, and opinion pieces in the future.

If you’re looking for more news, check out Gothic remake is going ahead. If that doesn’t appeal, maybe our review of Zombie Army 4 will.

Are you excited for a new Obsidian RPG? Have you played The Outer Worlds? Will you apply for the internship?

My name is James, I'm a 21-year-old aspiring writer and the fact that you're reading this probably means you want to know more about me(hopefully) I've been gaming practically all my life and pretending I know more than I actually do about them for just as long. I love talking about games just as much as I like playing them and some of my favourite games to talk about are Yakuza, Persona and Dark Souls. Feel free to let me bully you about them in the future!
