The purported replacement for the beloved NCAA Football series has officially been announced and is on the way this fall. Maximum Football 2020 was confirmed by Canuck Play and Spear Interactive through a recent release on Thursday.
The announcement and the official unveiling of the logo came after being teased a bit on the game’s official twitter account on Wednesday. Now comes the waiting game to see if the company can deliver on promises of improvement over the current release.
Last year’s version was the first to include college football teams and that inclusion certainly helped the title gain steam among digital football fans. The flipside is reviews of the game, including ours, found Maximum Football 2019 to be …rough.
Canuck Play has long made it clear they want everyone to know just how small the company is and that’s why there are some issues that have popped up. At the same time, the developer has talked a lot about 2019 and early 2020 providing a learning curve.
To that end, the firm has talked a little bit about how it wants to improve. That includes trying its best to find a way to get real player names and likenesses into the game. That’s not something that will likely happen in Maximum Football 2020 but in the near future.
Until that time, there’s plenty to work on. Canuck Play said it will provide updates over the next few months on those improvements.
As was the case last fall, Maximum Football 2020 is getting a digital-only release for both the Xbox One and PS4. Canuck has said physical copies are expected at some point as well. If it follows the same pattern, look for that sometime in 2021.
Between now and then, it will be interesting to see what the development team has in store. Even just some tweaks in the customization options could provide a game that scratches the college football itch.
Maximum Football 2020 doesn’t have an official release date but is hitting the Xbox One and PS4 in the fall of 2020.
