Among the massive amount of survival games out there, few truly do stand out to players. Most seem to get lost in the crowd as just another copy of another survival title. Windbound seeks to ride the wave out of that stereotype and stand on its own as a really interesting survival RPG. The game releases in August of 2020 and is being developed 5 Lives Studios and published by Deep Silver. To help celebrate its announcement, Deep Silver has posted an announcement trailer showing off the game’s art style and gameplay.

In Windbound, you’re a woman recently shipwrecked in unknown and uncharted territory. You’ll have to gather various resources and live off the land if you want to survive, but also to find out more. The islands themselves hold a lot of secrets and revelations about the past, present, and future. Throughout the game, you’ll collect many resources and fight off wildlife to upgrade your gear and create better rafts. Don’t take too much time though, as resources are limited and you’ll have to traverse to other islands to survive.

Windbound

What makes Windbound stand out is its choice of art direction. The art style and atmosphere come across as right in that middle ground for audiences. It’s not so cartoonish that it’s meant for children, and it’s not so detailed that it’s meant for the most hardcore survival fans. It feels more like a game that everyone can enjoy, and that will likely help the game in the long run. What will truly tell if this game is the best or worse the genre can offer though is its exploration. The announcement trailer shows off a beautiful world already and if that continues, we could have an awesome game here.

Windbound releases on August 28th, 2020 for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. You can find more details regarding the game on its official page. We’ll keep you updated on this game as it gets closer to launch. For all your news, reviews, and more, stay tuned here at The Nerd Stash!
