Hold off on fighting for those toilet paper rolls for a second as Sony has revealed more PS5 details on what you’ll be fighting for this holiday season.
News about the PS5 has been drip-fed to gamers like hamsters the past few months. This info batch sees a number of alterations coming this year. First off, Sony isn’t calling this the Dualshock Cinco but rather a new title, DualSense.
These details come from today’s PlayStation Blog post where SIE Senior Vice President of Platform & Management Hideaki Nishino discussed the features. The latest wireless controller will feature adaptive triggers, haptic feedback, and a built-in microphone array.
โWe also incorporated adaptive triggers into the L2 and R2 buttons of DualSense so you can truly feel the tension of your actions, like when drawing a bow to shoot an arrow,โ Nishino said.
The DualSense’s built-in mic is also a new feature, โwhich will enable players to easily chat with friends without a headset โ ideal for jumping into a quick conversation,โ Nishino said. โBut of course, if you are planning to chat for a longer period, itโs good to have that headset handy.โ
PS5: The New Hotness
The VP goes on to mention a PlayStation first, the dual-colored design of the standard controller. DualSense is dropping the Share button in favor of a “Create” button. “With Create, we’re once again pioneering new ways for players to create epic gameplay content to share with the word, or just enjoy themselves,” Nishino said.
Further changes find DualSense using a USB-C port, the light bar is moved from the controller’s back to the sides of the touchpad.ย One can hope that the PS5 lightbar doesn’t drain the battery as it did on PS4. Too many online fighting game matches have seen opponents get pieced up as they go comatose from that battery dying.
SIE President & CEO Jim Ryan reconfirmed the PS5’s release window on the post. He said that the PS5 is still slated to hit stores this holiday. We’ll keep you updated with more details in the coming months.
