According to Kotaku, the next GTA game is in development at Rockstar Games.

Kotaku’s Jason Schreier recently put out an update on Rockstar’s changes to help working conditions. The company, of course, has been in the news over the years as one of the more stressful gaming studios, and “crunch” is a big part of the development cycle there. In the report, Schreier briefly discussed a plan Rockstar has to mitigate crunch in the future. That plan includes the studio’s next big title, a new Grand Theft Auto:

“One plan that management has laid out for the next game, a new entry in the Grand Theft Auto series, is to start out with a moderately sized release (which, by Rockstar’s standards, would still be a large game) that is then expanded with regular updates over time, which may help mitigate stress and crunch.”

Schreier did also mention that the untitled GTA game was still in early development. IGN would later confirm Kotaku’s report.

With the next GTA in its early stages of development, it’ll be a while before we see anything from it. The prospect of releasing the next GTA on a smaller scale and updating it over time is interesting, to say the least. Rockstar has done this in the past with GTA Online and Red Dead Online. That content has been met with varying levels of success. Regardless, if it helps the developing team in the long run, changing up the process will be worth it.

Rockstar is Changing Their Culture

Getting back to the Kotaku report, it seems that Rockstar is making a genuine effort to change the culture around the studio for the better with leadership transitions and the changes, as mentioned above in the development cycle.

What are your thoughts on Grand Theft Auto 6, possibly releasing on a smaller scale with a plan to expand over time? What do you want to see from the next GTA? Let us know in the comments below?
