Hockey fans to compete for cash in an upcoming NHL20 eSports event.
Physical sports may currently be down for the count but electronic sports (eSports) are going strong and hockey fans will be able to compete against each other during an NHL20 eSports event over the next two weeks. PlayStation gamers will be able to compete in this tournament on May 23 while Xbox users will be able to compete the May 30. If you are a sports junkie missing your competitive itch, eSports may present an opportunity for you.
256 NHL 20 esports event slots will be available per platform with opportunities for cash prizes up to $2,250. Other prizes include gift cards to Zale Apparel and Just Dishin’, two of the event’s eleven sponsors. Other sponsors include 26 Shirts, Barstool Sport’s Spittin’ Chiclets, Bladetech Hockey, Howie’s Hockey, HOLDAT Clothing, The Martin Group, Picasso’s Pizza, Skate Skins, STX Hockey, Triple Deke, and TSN’s Bardown.
“We’re all eager to get off the bench, but this is a time unlike any other in sports history,” said Akil Thomas, Zale co-founder, LA Kings prospect, and 2020 IIHF World Juniors champion with Team Canada. “While fans have had the chance to watch pros play in tournaments, we’re excited to bring an experience created specifically for them to get in on the action.”
The tournament prizes include:
- First Place: $2,250 prize value including $1,250 cash, $500 in gift cards from Just Dishin’ and Zale, a custom MSN Lazer Award ($500 value), STX Stick of the winner’s choice ($250 value) and Bladetech Custom Blades ($100 value)
- Second Place: $1,050 prize value including $750 cash and $300 in gift cards from Just Dishin and Zale
- Third Place: $500 prize value including $300 cash, plus $200 in gift cards from Just Dishin and Zale
- Fourth Place: $250 prize value including $150 cash and $100 in gift cards from Just Dishin and Zale
Registration for the tournament is open until 11:59 PM (Eastern Time) on May 27; the registration fee is $25.
