Have you ever hoped for a crossover where the Doctor teams up with Gandalf and Batman? Well, I have goodish news as your wish is sort of granted thanks to Lego Dimensions;

The LEGO game franchise seems to have the unstoppable appeal that the actual plastic bricks once held. For those of you who haven’t heard about Lego Dimensions, let’s back up a bit and explain.

Lego Dimensions is Travellers Tales attempt to follow in the footsteps of Skylanders, Disney Infinity and Amiibo. You buy special Lego figures which then allow you to use those characters or items in the game itself. So basically DLC, but with the need to buy a one use physical component as well.

Moving along, the basic premise of Lego Dimensions is so brilliantly simple, it does make you wonder why no one thought of it before now. By this point, a lot of franchises have had a Lego game adaption; meaning that they’ve got the rights to a whole lot of different franchises.

So some unsung genius finally had the idea to have a game where all these different series crossover together. The result is Lego Dimensions.

Basically this, but with plastic figures

The basic plot is that Batman, Gandalf and Wyldstyle must travel between dimensions to defeat the evil Lord Vortech. Along the way, they must team up with characters form the various Lego video games to save the day.

All well and good, but no one saw Doctor Who joining the plastic dimension hopping fun. There has been no Lego Doctor Who game before now. Travellers Tales have not had the rights to a Doctor Who adpation before now, so it was never on the cards.

Normally in the Lego games, if your character is killed, they break apart and then reform straight away. As you can see from the trailer, if Twelve dies, he’ll regenerate into the first Doctor and each death will see him cycle through his various incarnations until he’s Twelve again.

More as it breaks.
