The highly-anticipated crossover fighter is still in production. This is according to the Tekken X Street Fighter’s producer, Katsuhiro Harada. He reassured fans that the game is not canceled in an interview with Famitsu (translated via Siliconera). Harada responded with, “that’s not true,” when being asked about the game’s cancelation, and then went into further detail about the game’s production.

He added, “I’ve been saying this since before, but the fact of the matter is that we’re at a pretty far stage into its development.”

Apparently, the character models are already done, and the moves and gameplay are set.

“It might seem like we haven’t started on it at all, but the character lineup has been decided upon since a very long time ago,” he said. “And we’ve already finished the polygon models, moves, and systems.”

While Harada did not state a reason for the delay, it could be due to the fact that he is also working on Tekken 7, Pokken Tournament, and a Project Morpheus game.

Tekken X Street Fighter was first announced five years ago at San Diego Comic-Con 2010. Since then, developer Bandai Namco revealed Tekken 7 for 2015, and publisher Capcom revealed its newest addition to the Street Fighter series, Street Fighter V for 2016.

It does not seem likely that Tekken X Street Fighter will hit those release windows, but knowing the game is “pretty far into development” gives reason to be optimistic.

Harada also did not give specific details about any new features, but he stated, “I can’t really say how we’re aiming to surprise fans right now, but we’ve been playing around with many different ideas.”
