It’s crazy to think that as of November this year, Worms will be 25 years old. Even I’m not that old, so it’s insane to think that a series that’s still getting entries started back in the 1990s. Now’s a time for celebration, and Team17 are starting things a little early today. The team announces that the 1999 game Worms Armageddon is getting patch v3.8 today. Along with that, Worms Rumble’s Steam closed beta kicks off today and runs until July 20th at 8 PM BST. You can find a trailer for patch v3.8 below.

Worms Armageddon - Patch 3.8 Trailer!

Worms Armageddon came out 21 years ago and in that time, many fans have played and modified that game with consistent content. Team17 recognizes this and is celebrating community content with today’s patch. It brings plenty of new features and updates, all brought together by the community. Some of these include the ability to affect game physics, new CPU-controlled teammates in online matches, Mapshot, and more! The latter allows you to take the previous map you played on and play it again, but with all destruction in place. These aren’t incredibly substantial changes, but they should serve to help keep the game’s community alive.

These are some great changes to Worms Armageddon, and we’re excited to see the initial reactions to the game’s beta. Kevin Carthew, Creative Director at Team17 had the following to say of today’s news:

Iโ€™m thankful to have been able to play some part in the Wormsย story over the past twenty years.ย Worms: Armageddon was among the first games I worked on; itโ€™s incredible that members of the community are still delivering updates for it, and is a sure sign of its quality and the love that fans have for it. Weโ€™re currently writing the next chapter of theย Wormsย story withย Worms Rumble, and its beta test is currently underway. Tens of thousands of players have signed up to experience a fresh take on the series, and weโ€™re receiving invaluable feedback that will help us deliver a great game.โ€

Worms Rumble is coming to PS5, PS4, and Steam, while Worms Armageddon is available on PC. We’d love to hear your thoughts on today’s news. Will you be looking into the updates to Worms Armageddon?
