Static Shock is returning in 2021 in comic book form and will be published by the reborn Milestone Comics. The announcement, and plenty more, came during the DC FanDome Hall of Heroes stream. Milestone will be apart of DC Comics beginning in 2021. Milestar producer Reggie Hudlin, co-founder Denys Cowan, and voice actor Phil Lamar (Static Shock, Samurai Jack), revealed details about the return and the possibilities of animated movies and podcasts surrounding new comics.

The first brand new comic to be released by Milestone will be a Static Shock digital comic series starting in February. Following issue number one, future releases will include a Static Shock original graphic novel by Hudlin with art by Cowan. But there will also be more announcements at a later date. While no details are surrounding the storyline of the Static Shock comic, it is also unclear if it will be an origin story. The animated television series followed Virgil Hawkins after coming into contact with a gas that gave him superpowers to control electricity. The TV series and comic books are also possibly being joined by a theatrical release, as announced at one of the panels today.

DC is holding another event on September 12 where fans can read older titles of the Static Shock series for free. Along with the first two issues, DC is also releasing five other comics for free in September.

• Static Shock (2011 – 2012) #1
• Static Shock (2011 – 2012) #2
• Xombi #1
• Xombi #2
• Hardware: The Man in the Machine (2010)
• Icon: A Hero’s Welcome (1996)
• Icon Vol. 2: The Mothership Connection (2010)

Other publications include Milestone Returns #0, a 17-page sampler written by Reggie Hudlin with Greg Pak, and cover art by Denys Cowan and Chris Sotomayor. Issue zero will introduce and re-introduce fans to Milestone characters such as Static Shock, Icon, Rocket, Duo, and others. The sampler features art by Cowan, Jim Lee, Ryan Benjamin, Khoi Pham, Scott Hanna, Bill Sienkiewicz, Don Ho, Alex Sinclair, and Deron Bennett.

Milestone Comics was founded in 1993 as Milestone Media as an imprint of DC Comics.
