Wonder Woman 1984 is getting a theatrical release after all.

Wonder Woman 1984 drops a new trailer and confirms theatre release. Watch the trailer below.

Originally scheduled to hit the big screen on June 5th before being delayed to August 14th due to the pandemic, the Patty Jenkins-directed film starring Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Kristen Wiig, and Pedro Pascal is now scheduled for release on to October 2nd. At Saturday’s DC Comics’ FanDome event, Jenkins said, “I really think the movie is so great on the big screen. We’re going to stick it out, and we believe in putting it in the cinema,” debuting a new trailer for the sequel.

In this new look, fans see Gadot’s Diana Prince take on new foe Barbara Minerva aka Cheetah, played by Kristen Wiig in several battles. The film picks up many decades after the 2017 original, as Diana faces new threats and challenges in the Cold War of the 1980s.

Alongside Gal Gadot’s Diana Prince, Chris Pine returns as Steve Trevor in the sequel

Chris Pine returns as the thought-to-be-dead Steve Trevor, who helped Diana acclimate to the world when she left Paradise Island for the first time in the first film. This time around their positions are flipped as Diana guides Steve through the ’80s.

Wonder Woman 1984 also introduces another nemesis in the form of The Mandalorian’s Pedro Pascal who plays businessman Maxwell Lord, who appears as the human personification of the decade’s overzealous ambition.

The news that Wonder Woman 1984 might be getting the big-screen treatment puts some questions of a digital-only release to rest. Earlier this year, AT&T CEO John Stankey spoke about whether certain titles under the Warner Bros. label (WarnerMedia is a subsidiary of AT&T) would go directly to digital retailers, due to the pandemic.

Do I think there can be some things that we built for theatrical release that migrates into a [streaming] construct? Sure. Is it going to happen on a movie like Tenet or Wonder Woman 1984? I would be very surprised…”

It seems now that Wonder Woman 1984 will exclusively go to theatres, though nothing is for certain yet. What are your thoughts on the new trailer? Are you excited for the film to hit theatres in October? Comment below!
