If there’s one thing we Canadians love, it’s our hockey. Sitting down to watch another Stanley Cup with the family is a tradition around here, along with another year of the Canucks not winning. The latter may just be my family though. Another tradition is the yearly NHL game releases, bringing hockey fans something new to sink their teeth into. As expected, 2020 is no different. EA announces today that NHL 21 releases on October 16th for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, bringing fans another year of hockey action to both platforms. You can find the release trailer below:

This year, Stanley Cup winner Alex Ovechkin gets the front cover spot for NHL 21. Ovechkin is something of a legend among the hockey community, famous for his impact on the game and how influential he’s become. The development team saw this and decided to take inspiration from his great plays into the game. With that, it was a no brainer to have him on the cover. Ovechkin himself seems pleased to get the spot:

It’s a huge honor to be on the cover of NHL 21 for the second cover in my career. More importantly, I’m glad I’m looking just as good on the cover this year as I did in 2007!!!”

Thankfully, this edition of NHL 21 is getting some meaningful changes. The Be A Pro mode is getting a massive overhaul, improving upon the quality-of-life and narrative to provide a more refined experience. Hockey Ultimate Team is getting some upgrades too, with a new mode called HUT RUSH (interesting name choice). Joining that is World of CHEL and various gameplay improvements. That all is topped off by better visuals, looking more like what you’d expect from a game in 2020.

If you’re interested in pre-ordering, you can do so here. Those who pre-order the game get some interesting goodies, those of which you can find for your respective console. Will you be pre-ordering NHL 21? What are your thoughts on the current Stanley Cup playoff standings? Let us know, and stay tuned at The Nerd Stash for all your news, reviews, and more!
