After eight years, ArenaNet announced that they are bringing Guild Wars 2 and the two expansions, Heart of Thorns and Path of Fire, along with all current ‘Living World’ contents including The Icebrood Saga to Steam in November 2020. Players in the Steam version and the existing Guild Wars 2 launcher share the same server and will be able to play together (even if NA and EU are still separated). Unfortunately, existing Guild Wars 2 accounts cannot be converted to Steam and vice-versa.

They also took this celebratory moment to reveal a teaser trailer for Guild Wars 2: End of Dragons expansion. This time around you will go on a journey to Cantha, the mysterious island nation in the south that has been neither seen nor heard from for over 200 years. You can also hear the voice of Kuunavang, a dragon who first showed up in Guild Wars: Factions and hasn’t been seen since. This upcoming third expansion is currently still in development and planned to be released in 2021.

And as the last bonus, current Guild Wars 2: Path of Fire owners will be able to unlock a new ability for their Skimmer mount starting today. Allowing Skimmer to dive and lets you explore Tyria’s underwater environments.

Regarding their decision to finally release the game on Steam, Chief Operating Officer NCSOFT West Chauncey Gammage said,

Guild Wars 2 has endured for the better part of a decade because of its innovative gameplay, rich storytelling, and passionate fanbase. As the game’s incredible fantasy world prepares to grow once again with the End of Dragons expansion, we are excited to bring this universally acclaimed gaming experience to Steam users around the globe.”

Both the Steam release and End of Dragons expansion were announced in the 57-minutes long Guild Wars 2‘s eighth-anniversary livestream shown today. Ready to go back to Cantha again with new and old friends? Tell us your Guild Wars stories in the comments below.
