Looking forward to playing the Star Wars sequel trilogy films in LEGO format? Well, you might be waiting longer than expected.

In a screenshot posted by Twitter user Wario64, it shows a now-deleted page on the LEGO website, announcing the videogame’s postponement. The text reads: “The Skywalker Saga – Coming 2021′ alongside an official image of the game.

However, as mentioned, the page has now been taken down. The page now shows no signs of any release date.

A previously-released official video suggested that LEGO Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker would release on current-gen platforms October 20, 2020. Shortly afterwards, however, the video was privated and then re-uploaded on YouTube, with the release date edited out.

As of the time of writing, there’s no clear reason for why the release dates have been pulled on both occasions.

Lego Star Wars

LEGO Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker boasts the ability to play through all nine main episodic films in the franchise. The game, as with all of the LEGO titles based on movies, is developed by British developer Traveller’s Tales. Previous games in the developer’s catalogue have covered the original and prequel Star Wars trilogies.

Traveller’s Tales’ LEGO games have also ‘brick-a-fied’ other famous franchises including Indiana Jones, Marvel and Batman. While nowadays, Traveller’s Tales mainly develops such  games, they are also known for having developed a number of Disney spin-off games in the 90’s. These include Mickey Mania (Mickey’s Wild Adventure in the UK), A Bug’s Life and Toy Story 4. They even developed later Crash games such as The Wrath of Cortex and Twinsanity.

The Star Wars sequel trilogy, which will be depicted in LEGO Star Wars, was a financial behemoth, earning $4.475 billion on a combined budget of around $720 million. LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga garnered sales exceeding 3.4 million by May 2009, with the brand continuing to be a best-seller for TT.

The game, whenever it gets released, is going to be released on Xbox One, PC, PS4 and Windows.
