You may recall a little indie game called The Flame in the Flood. It has you following a small adventurer down a river in search of resources and supplies. The game may not be too well known, but it’s highly regarded with a 75% recommended rating on Steam. That game comes from The Molasses Flood, an indie studio based out of Boston, Massachusetts who has been hard at work on their next project. Today, I’m happy to say that project is now available to the world. Following a delay, Drake Hollow, their co-operative village building game, is now available on Xbox One. The launch trailer can be found below.

What is Drake Hollow?

Drake Hollow puts you (and maybe a few friends) in The Hollow, a mirror of our world with a very big difference. This world is inhabited by Drakes, adorable little vegetable characters that need a new home. That’s where you come in. Among the world of The Hollow, you must gather resources and create a new home to defend against vicious beasts. They want nothing more than to consume the Drakes, so it’s up to you to stop them. How you choose to collect resources and build your base is up to you, but don’t underestimate these beasts. They may just have a few tricks up their sleeves.

The Hollow isn’t just filled with creatures though, as there are many secrets and new things to discover around every corner. It’s a world brimming with fresh content, making Drake Hollow an enjoyable experience all around. Forrest Dowling, CEO and Creative Director at The Molasses Flood, believes heavily in that vision:

Drake Hollow gives players a chance to experience something pretty unique in the world of games: the opportunity to care for something other than yourself. Our aim was to create a game experience that brims with heart, is both musically and visually enticing, and has at its core rock-solid systems-based gameplay. We hope players find Drake Hollow to be as fun and unique as we designed it to be!”

Hopefully, you find that Drake Hollow lives up to that vision. For now, I’d love to hear what you think of Drake Hollow. Any friends you want to bring along for the journey? How do you plan to build your base? Let us know, and stay tuned at The Nerd Stash for all your news, reviews, and more!
