Microsoft might be kicking off Tokyo Game Show 2020, but you shouldn’t get too excited. The Xbox team has officially confirmed that they are not going to show any new Xbox Series X news on the September 24th live stream. Instead, the Xbox Games Showcase will focus on Flight Simulator updates on PC, the Japanese Minecraft community, and “celebrating Japanese game creators and games”. Whatever that means.

Although to be fair, the Tokyo Game Show has always been a very Japan-centric event, unsurprisingly. American and European developers or publishers have never announced anything groundbreaking during the show. Plus they also said that the Xbox stream is going to be broadcast in Japanese only. This is probably just one way for Microsoft to say that they are still supporting the Japanese market.

Nevertheless, previously announced cross-generation exclusives such as Psychonauts 2, Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis, or CrossFireX might be getting new trailers. Since the Xbox Japan Twitter said that they do have “information on recently announced games”.

Tokyo Game Show 2020

Tokyo Game Show 2020 will run from September 24 to 27. And the Xbox Tokyo Game Show Showcase will start on the first day at 8 PM Japan Standard Time (or around 4:00 AM PDT). The stream will run for 50 minutes and then followed by Square Enix and Lightning Games (Hardcore Mecha, HAAK, ANNO: Mutationem). Aside from the console games announcement, they also plan to present Street Fighter, Magic: The Gathering, and Puzzle & Dragon competitions, mobile games news, and the Japan Game Awards as well.

Again, don’t get too excited and set a more realistic expectation for the live stream. Since it is a Japan-focused event after all. Any Japanese indie game you are looking for? Or maybe more updates on Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis? Tell us your hopes and dreams for the Tokyo Game Show 2020 showcase in the comments below.
