If you’re looking for a swashbuckling adventure with friends, Sea of Thieves has likely been your go-to for some time now. With it being on Game Pass, and providing hundreds of hours of progression, the fun never ends with the game. The game’s held a monopoly for some time though, with very few games challenging it or coming close. Today, a new contender enters the ring in a new way. Blazing Sails, the pirate battle royale from Iceberg Interactive, is now available in Steam Early Access for $24.99. As a special launch promotion, the game is available at 10% off that price until September 16th. You can find the exciting launch trailer, shown at Gamescom, below.

Blazing Sails (Pirate Battle Royale)- Official Trailer | gamescom 2020

Blazing Sails looks to give a more seaworthy approach to the battle royale genre, having players battle across open seas for a chance at victory. You pick and design your pirate, using a wide variety of hats, clothes, and facial features. From there, head out onto the waters with friends or matchmade players to work your way towards glory. You’ll collect different resources, build up your ship, and take each other in high-speed nautical battles. It’s an interesting new take on battle royales, and one that promises and a lot of sea shenanigans.

I have to say I’m genuinely intrigued by Blazing Sails. The art style may lend itself more to Sea of Thieves than I’d like, but a pirate battle royale is something I haven’t seen before. I’m a big fan of unique and fresh takes (hence my love for Dishonored 2 and Titanfall 2), so I feel this may be a lot of fun with that in mind. We’ll have to see how Blazing Sails develops to know if that’s true or not though. Blazing Sails is available exclusively on PC through Steam. Will you be heading out onto the open seas? Which battle royale is your favorite? Let us know, and stay tuned at The Nerd Stash for all your news, reviews, and more!
